ELKTON, Md. (AP) - Authorities in Maryland have identified human bones that were found two years ago along a road.

The News Journal in Wilmington, Delaware, reported Saturday that the remains belonged to Dorothy Dianne Stokes. The Cecil County Sheriff’s Office in Maryland identified the body through DNA testing and other in-depth investigative techniques.

Stokes’ remains were found in January 2016 a short distance from a roadway near in Elkton, Maryland, near the Delaware border.

Cecil County police said they contacted Stokes’ two daughters in Arkansas. They said their last contact with Stokes was in 2010. They said she was receiving treatment in a medical facility in Maryland. The sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing.
