ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) - Cornell University says 62 students from Puerto Rico’s main public university system are arriving this month for the spring semester.

Cornell made the offer to help University of Puerto Rico students last year after Hurricane Maria ravaged the island.

The upstate school is offering one semester of free tuition, room and board. Additionally, almost $58,000 has been raised to help defray the students’ costs for things like books, supplies and transportation.

The money also will help defray the costs of winter clothing for the students from Puerto Rico.
