NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a man had been fatally shot and his father was wounded while they worked on a South Carolina home.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports 41-year-old Michael Bryan Cooke and 64-year-old Charles Michael Cooke were shot Friday while refurbishing a family’s home near North Charleston.

A Charleston County Sheriff’s Office statement says Michael Bryan Cooke was pronounced dead at the scene. An affidavit says Charles Michael Cooke had been hospitalized with “life-threatening” injuries but was in stable condition Saturday evening.

The affidavit says sheriff’s detectives went to nearby a high school to ask if any students were absent or late. The sheriff’s office says 18-year-olds Aaron Jordan White and Daquintez Jermont Gadsden were arrested on charges including murder and burglary.

It is unclear if they have lawyers.
