WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - City records in Wilmington show that several apartment complexes for low-income seniors are struggling with bedbugs.

Richard Atkinson says he wakes up every night to sheets bloodied from bedbug bites. He says his unit has been fumigated three times in the past five months. The News Journal of Wilmington cites city records that say exterminators have sprayed for bedbugs at Atkinson’s complex 180 times in the past four months.

The newspaper reports several complexes, which all contain senior Section 8 housing, are struggling with bedbugs, some receiving hundreds of treatments in a few months. Atkinson is one of many low-income residents who can’t afford to leave or get rid of infested items.
