PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Boston-based health care system has applied for approval from Rhode Island to acquire Care New England.
Partners HealthCare filed applications for approval from the Rhode Island Department of Health and the Rhode Island attorney general’s office Monday.
The Providence Journal reports Partners also plans to file a Notice of Material Change in Massachusetts later this week.
According to the expected filings, Care New England would become part of Brigham Health, which belongs to Partners.
Leaders of Brigham Health, Care New England and Brown University praised the filings in a joint statement.
The Federal Trade Commission, which has the authority to challenge a health care system merger or acquisition, recently declined challenging this merger.
