DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A 23-year-old Des Moines man has been sentenced to 60 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the strangulation death of a woman in January and to burglary for a separate break-in.

The Des Moines Register reports that Kyle Alexander Jepson entered the plea and was sentenced Friday. In exchange for his plea, first-degree murder and other felony charges were dropped.

Prosecutors say Jepson broke into Gloria Gary’s house Jan. 3, killed her when she arrived home and hid her body inside the house. He stole $200 and her car and was arrested Jan. 12 in Utah. Police say he also broke into another Des Moines woman’s home Dec. 29.

Jepson admitted in court Friday that the break-ins were sexually motivated, so he will be required to register as a sex offender.
