MILLSBORO, Del. (AP) - An 8-month old girl has been critically injured after the car she was riding in collided with a concrete truck.

The News Journal in Wilmington, Delaware, reported that the girl was listed in critical condition Wednesday evening.

The accident occurred north of Millsboro around 11:40 a.m. Police said the girl was “improperly secured” in a forward facing car seat in the rear of the car.

She was taken to A.I. DuPont Hospital in Wilmington.

A 40-year-old man was driving the Kia Optima carrying the baby. Police said excessive speed on a wet roadway may have caused to Kia to fail to negotiate a curve. The car crossed into oncoming traffic.

The driver of the Kia was treated and released for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the concrete truck was uninjured.
