A six-part series on former President Bill Clinton’s impeachment and trial is heading to History.
Television producer and filmmaker R.J. Cutler plans on bringing the 42nd president’s tumultuous White House tenure back into living rooms with an adaptation of author Peter Baker’s New York Times bestseller “The Breach: Inside the Impeachment and Trial of William Jefferson Clinton.”
The green-lighted project was announced Thursday with a statement by Eli Lehrer, History’s executive vice president of programming.
“Featuring an array of well-known modern political figures, ’The Breach’ will bring audiences behind the scenes of an event that changed Washington forever — the first impeachment of an elected president in American history,” Mr. Lehrer said, THR reported. “This drama builds upon our core scripted programming slate of compelling, contemporary storytelling that embraces our recent history and we are confident R.J. will bring a unique vision to President Clinton’s gripping story.”
Casting is underway for “The Breach,” which will be produced by Mr. Cutler and A+E Studios’ Barry Jossen, THR added.
Mr. Clinton was impeached by the House of Representatives on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice as a result of lies told during a sexual-harassment suit against him levied by Paula Jones.
The case brought to light Mr. Clinton’s affair with former White House Monica Lewinsky and featured the infamous quotes, “I did not have sexual relations with that woman,” and “it depends upon what the meaning of the word ’is’ is.”
The Senate acquitted Mr. Clinton in February 1999.
