DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A Polk County judge has dismissed a lawsuit that claimed members of the Iowa Board of Regents violated the state open-meeting law by meeting privately with the man they later chose as president of the University of Iowa.
The Des Moines Register reports Polk County Judge William Kelly on Monday dismissed the lawsuit filed by former university employee Gerhild Krapf.
Krapf had alleged in a 2016 lawsuit that five of the nine-member board inappropriately met with former business executive Bruce Harreld by holding multiple gatherings to avoid having a majority present at once. The meetings were held at the private office of then-Board President Bruce Rastetter.
Lawyers for the regents sought the dismissal, arguing the back-to-back meetings didn’t violate state law because a majority of the board was never together.
