OPINION:
There is something seriously wrong with politicians who have the audacity to blame President Trump for not acting fast enough in the aftermath of the two hurricanes that hit Puerto Rico.
I took measures preparing for Hurricane Jose and two ice storms that hit South Carolina several years back that knocked out my electricity for four and five days respectively. I got gas for my generator and car and food and water to last a few days. By all reports the people of Puerto Rico were in dire straights right from the beginning. The mayor of San Juan was knocking Mr. Trump for not moving fast enough with water and supplies, while in the background behind her there were palettes of water stacked four feet high.
It wasn’t Mr. Trump who didn’t act, it was the leadership on the island that didn’t prepare for the devastation predicted before the storms hit. They are responsible for not setting up shelters. They are responsible for not declaring a state of emergency like so many other states did prior to the storms.
As a young Marine stationed in Puerto Rico way back in 1966, I remember that the people accepted me as one of their own, so I have an interest in what happened on the island and gave a donation. But I blame their politicians for being inept and derelict in their duties for not protecting their people.
