CLAYMONT, Del. (AP) - A 6-year-old Delaware boy escaped from his mother’s car just before it was stolen.

The News Journal of Wilmington reports that Delaware State Police spokesman Michael Austin says the boy was not harmed in the Wednesday carjacking.

Austin says the boy’s mother had parked in front of a Wawa in Claymont, leaving the keys in the ignition and her son in the car before entering the store. She noticed a woman watching her, who then left the store and entered the victim’s car. The boy noticed the woman wasn’t his mother, and exited the car just before it was stolen.

Police are still seeking the suspect and the vehicle, which was last seen headed toward Wilmington.
