VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - A rape charge has been dismissed against an Uber driver who was accused of sexually assaulting a Virginia woman in the back seat of his car.
The charge against Sewanou Bisile Yoro was dismissed Monday after his lawyers presented new evidence that raised questions about the alleged victim’s credibility.
Yoro was charged in March after a woman he picked up in Virginia Beach alleged he attacked her.
Yoro’s lawyer told The Virginian-Pilot that prosecutors agreed to the dismissal after the defense presented statements from another Uber driver who said he’d been involved in a “similar scenario” with the 19-year-old woman.
The charge was dismissed with prejudice, meaning that prosecutors are barred from reinstating the charges at a later date.
