PHOENIX (AP) - The Latest on a Phoenix freeway crash (all times local):

8:50 a.m.

Part of a Phoenix freeway has reopened after being closed during the Thursday morning commute because of a serious two-vehicle crash.

Eastbound Loop 202 in Phoenix reopened after being closed between State Route 143 and Priest Drive for about five hours after the wreck left debris across traffic lanes.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says a SUV struck a car that was facing the wrong way in the carpool lane but that it’s not yet known whether the car was moving at the time or had been traveling the wrong way before the collision.

Both drivers were taken to hospitals - the SUV driver for evaluation and the car driver for treatment of serious and possibly life-threatening injuries.

Westbound lanes were unaffected.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says a car involved in a serious wreck that closed a Phoenix freeway during the Thursday morning commute was facing the wrong way in the carpool lane.

However, Trooper Kameron Lee says investigators don’t yet know whether the car struck by an eastbound SUV on the Loop 202 freeway was traveling the wrong way before the wreck or was stationary when the wreck occurred at 3:39 a.m.

Lee says authorities don’t have any reports that the car was traveling the wrong way before the crash and he says the actual collision was side-to-side, not head-on.

The car’s driver has serious injuries while the SUV’s driver was taken to a hospital for evaluation. Lee says both are Phoenix area men.
