White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Wednesday that Democrats are “playing political games” by refusing to meet with President Trump.

“It’s really sad what Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi did yesterday, refusing to come and sit down with the president,” Mrs. Sanders said on Fox News.

She urged Democrats to put “the priorities of Americans first” and not “the priorities of their party.”

Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi decided not to attend a planned meeting at the White House on Tuesday after Mr. Trump tweeted that there likely would not be a deal.

The two Democratic congressional leaders said that since the president did not expect a deal from the meeting, they would rather continue negotiating with their Republican colleagues.

“They’ve been all talk and they’ve been no action, and now it’s even worse — now it’s not even talk,” Mr. Trump said to reporters on Tuesday at the White House.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Paul D. Ryan attended the meeting as planned. The congressional leaders were slated to discuss tax reform among other topics.
