The White House has fired chief usher Angella Reid, who was hired by President Obama and was the first woman to hold the job.

“She is no longer employed at the White House,” deputy press secretary Sarah Sanders confirmed Friday. “We left on very good terms.”

Ms. Sanders characterized it as the type of move that sometimes occurs when a new administration takes over, and “certainly nothing more than that.”

Ms. Reid was hired by Mr. Obama in 2011, holding a job that usually involves longevity. There have been just nine White House ushers since 1900.

The chief usher oversees all operations in the White House residence, including managing a staff of maids, butlers, chefs and other employees. They also work closely with the first family.
