EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Teachers are planning a protest outside a Connecticut high school after Education Secretary Betsy DeVos referred to the school as a “dangerous daycare.”

WFSB-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2quZFLP ) the Connecticut Education and the East Hartford Education Associations will rally at East Hartford High School Tuesday morning.

DeVos used East Hartford as an example for schools that fail to unlock student’s potential during a House Appropriations Subcommittee hearing last week.

East Hartford teachers criticized the secretary for her statements, saying she should visit the school to make her own judgment.

Third grade teacher Annie Irvine says DeVos should be their biggest supporter. Irvine says “right now she’s our biggest adversary.”

Connecticut officials will address DeVos’ comments later Tuesday at the high school.
