CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Police in North Carolina say an Uber driver is missing and they are treating the case as a homicide investigation.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say 44-year-old Marlo Johnis Medina-Chevez left for work Saturday night and never returned home. Family members reported him missing on Sunday morning.

At a news conference on Monday, Maj. Cam Selvey told reporters the case has been transferred from the missing-persons unit to the homicide squad, in part because that unit has more resources. Selvey also said Medina-Chevez is in “grave danger.”

Selvey also said Uber is being very cooperative with police, but he didn’t say if police know the person he was picking up Saturday night.

For now, the search is focusing on Medina-Chevez’ vehicle, a blue 2008 Nissan Pathfinder with North Carolina license plate PDV-4382.
