President Trump held a closed-door meeting at the White House Friday morning with former Bush administration Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on global hotspots.
White House press secretary Sean Spicer said the two discussed “regional threats” and the U.S. effort to defeat the Islamic State in the Middle East, calling it “a great meeting.” He said Mr. Trump sought her advice “on variety of subjects.”
After they huddled in the Oval Office and posed for a photo, Mr. Trump said on Twitter, “Great meeting with a wonderful woman today, former Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice!”
Ms. Rice served as secretary of state from 2005 to 2009 under President George W. Bush. She also met with Mr. Trump during the transition, after failing to support him during the campaign.
Earlier this month, Mr. Trump appointed Dina Powell to a senior post on the White House national security council. Born in Egypt, she was a key adviser to Ms. Rice at the State Department.
