Avondale police have released the name of the man accused of shooting at an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper.
They say 29-year-old Luis Aldana was taken into custody Thursday afternoon in north Phoenix near Interstate 17 and the Loop 303.
That was about three hours after Aldana was stopped in Avondale for having a vehicle with windows tinted too dark.
He allegedly opened fire at a DPS trooper, who wasn’t injured.
But the trooper returned the gunfire and police say Aldana was wounded before fleeing the scene.
Authorities say Aldana is in stable condition at a Phoenix-area hospital where he’s being treated for a gunshot wound in the upper torso.
It’s not immediately known if he has a criminal record.

An Avondale Police Department spokesman says a suspect is at large after shooting at an Arizona state trooper who was not injured.
Office Jaret Redfearn says details of the incident Thursday morning remain unclear, including how many shots were fired, whether the trooper returned fire and how the trooper came in contact with the person.
Redfearn says the shooting occurred in the vicinity of Westview High School and Garden Lakes Elementary School and that schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution.
However, Redfearn says the incident occurred on a street and not immediately adjacent to either school.
Avondale is a Phoenix suburb on the metro area’s west side.
