ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. (AP) - State regulators have agreed to allow removable sea walls to protect beachfront property at the Wild Dunes resort on the Isle of Palms.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported (https://bit.ly/2nbFNIm) the Department of Health and Environmental Control board has rejected staff recommendations against the walls.

DHEC spokesman Robert Yanity says the walls will be allowed while the agency collects public comments on the idea of allowing the walls to protect the property.

The walls have helped keep high seas from sweeping into buildings, carports, pools and grounds at a series of beachfront condominiums and homes in the Wild Dunes resort on the east end of Isle of Palms for three years.

Similar walls also have been installed in front of some homes on St. Helena Sound near Beaufort.
