CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A woman is suing a South Carolina senior living facility after her 90-year-old grandmother was killed by an alligator last year.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reports (https://bit.ly/2rGS09H) the lawsuit filed this week by Stephanie Walker Weaver of Charleston seeks damages of more than $10,000 to be determined by a jury.
The lawsuit states that Bonnie Walker walked away from Brookdale Senior Living shortly after midnight July 27, but employees didn’t discover her missing until seven hours later.
Charleston County Coroner Rae Wooten said in a statement that investigators think Walker slipped or fell into the pond and then the alligator attacked her.
The suit says Brookdale failed to adequately monitor Walker or conduct a timely search, and should have known that its actions would also harm Walker’s family.
