PHOENIX (AP) - A short section of Interstate 10 west of downtown Phoenix will be closed much of the weekend for a bridge project that’s part of construction of the new Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says westbound I-10 will be closed at 59th Avenue from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for installation of a support structure for a future bridge for the new freeway.

ADOT says westbound I-10 traffic during the closure will be able to exit the freeway at the 59th Avenue off-ramp and re-enter via the 59th Avenue on-ramp, but that delays are anticipated.

The 22-mile South Mountain will connect with I-10 on the southeast and west sides of the Phoenix area.
