PHOENIX (AP) - The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for the Phoenix metro area through Friday when 116 degree conditions are expected.
The high for Thursday was forecast to hit 114 with 112 degrees expected for Saturday before the weather cools down a bit with the possibility of monsoon storms.
Arizona’s traditional monsoon season runs from mid-June to the end of September and is characterized by thunderstorms that stir up dust storms or rain.
The Salvation Army activated 14 heat relief stations Thursday throughout the Phoenix area.
Officials say the stations will provide cooling and hydration for all needing relief and be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily for as long as the excessive heat warning remains in effect.
