NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A suspect has been arrested in connection with a nearly year-old fatal shooting in South Carolina.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports North Charleston police arrested 18-year-old Demetrius Woodard on Monday night in the August 2016 shooting death of 40-year-old Jonathan Boone Jr.

Police spokesman Spencer Pryor said Woodard had previously been identified as a suspect and interviewed at length, but did not confess. Following his arrest Monday, Woodard confessed to the shooting during an interview with investigators and said that the incident started over a fight.

Woodard is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.
