President Trump said Wednesday that Americans can “never” have the safety and security they’re entitled to if the administration loses the legal battle over his “extreme vetting” immigration executive order.

“If the U.S. does not win this case as it so obviously should, we can never have the security and safety to which we are entitled. Politics!” the president tweeted.

A three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals heard arguments Tuesday after a federal judge temporarily halted the order.

The order suspends travel from seven majority-Muslim countries for 90 days, hits a 120-day pause on the U.S. refugee program and indefinitely suspends refugees from Syria entering the country.

The administration has argued that Mr. Trump has broad executive authority to act on immigration and that the order is in the United States’ national security interests.
