President Trump said Tuesday he’s willing to take his extreme vetting to the Supreme Court if need be, calling the executive order “common sense.”
A federal appeals court in California will hold oral arguments on the order later Tuesday.
“They want to take a lot of our powers away. Some people with the wrong intentions,” Mr. Trump said at a White House meeting with sheriffs from around the country.
Giving a nod to acting Attorney General Dana Boente, who was seated across the table, the president said he was leading a strong effort in the court battle.
Administration attorneys will argue that Mr. Trump was acting within his national security and immigration powers when he imposed temporary halts on the U.S. refugee program and on visitors from seven majority-Muslim countries.
