President Trump was declared “an idiot” by the Islamic State on Tuesday as the terror group offered its first public critique of Mr. Trump since he took office.
“America, you have drowned, and there is no savior, and you have become prey for the soldiers of the caliphate in every part of the earth. You are bankrupt and the signs of your demise are evident to every eye,” Islamic State’s official spokesman, Abi al-Hassan al-Muhajer, said in a recording released Tuesday on the Telegraph messaging network, Reuters first reported.
“There is no more evidence than the fact that you are being run by an idiot who does not know what Syria or Iraq or Islam is,” he added. “Die of spite America, die of spite. A nation where both young and old are racing to die in the name of God will not be defeated.”
The recording marked the first time the Islamic State, or ISIS, has publicly commented on Mr. Trump since his inauguration on Jan. 20, Reuters reported.
Mr. Trump promised on the campaign trail to eradicate ISIS while he is in office, and statistics released last month suggest the U.S.-led coalition fighting in Iraq and Syria dropped a record number of bombs on ISIS-related targets during the first nine weeks of the year, USA Today previously reported.
