Marvel Studios and Sylvester Stallone may be working together well into the iconic actor’s 70s if “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” director James Gunn has his way.

The man made famous for his roles as Rocky Balboa and John Rambo may soon be known as Stakar Ogord to an entire generation of young Marvel fans. The sequel to the 2014 hit “Guardians of the Galaxy” features Mr. Stallone, and Mr. Gunn thinks moviegoers will want more.

“I’m not sure about him appearing in Vol. 3, we’ll have to see about that, but it’s our plan to see more of Stallone,” the director told the Toronto Sun. Marvel Studios chief “Kevin [Feige] and I are working on what is going to become of the Marvel Cosmic Universe and where it’s going to go.”

Mr. Gunn’s first foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe netted over $773 million with a group of characters relatively unknown outside the comic-collecting world. His sequel, which once again stars Chris Pratt as Star-Lord and Zoe Saldana as Gamora, opens domestically May 5.

“I’m helping to decide what projects we’ll be pursuing outside of ’Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ and what the next cosmic characters we will focus on,” Mr. Gunn added. “It’s my plan to have Sly — and I talked to him last night — to find a place for him in the future of the Marvel Universe.”
