President Trump seems to have an unusual interest in overweight governors.
Less than a year after publicly telling New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie “no more Oreos,” Mr. Trump on Wednesday opined on Maine Gov. Paul LePage’s weight, telling a crowd he likes the Republican whether he’s fat or skinny.
“Gov. Paul LePage of Maine, who by the way has lost a lot of weight,” the president said just before signing an executive order on national monuments at the Interior Department.
Mr. LePage was in attendance at the event.
“I knew him when he was heavy and I know him now when he’s thin, and I like him both ways,” Mr. Trump continued.
The comments were somewhat reminiscent of Mr. Trump telling Mr. Christie last year to lay off the cookies.
“I’m not eating Oreos anymore, you know that. But neither is Chris,” Mr. Trump said at a May 2016 fundraising event. “You’re not eating Oreos anymore. No more Oreos — for either of us, Chris.”
