President Trump predicted Thursday that Congress will avert a government shutdown next week and that the House will also pass a revised bill to repeal and replace Obamacare.
“I want to get both,” Mr. Trump said at a White House press conference. “I think we’ll get both.”
Of the new health care bill being negotiated by House Republican leaders, the president said, “This is a great bill. This is a great plan. It’s evolving. We have a good chance of getting it soon — whether it’s next week or shortly thereafter.”
Last month, House Republican leaders pulled a health care bill from consideration when it became clear they lacked the votes to pass it. Mr. Trump rejected the characterization that it was a setback for his administration.
“It took Obamacare 17 months. I’ve really been negotiating this for two months,” he said. “The plan gets better and better, and it’s gotten really good.”
Referring to efforts to complete a funding bill to keep the government running beyond April 28, Mr. Trump said, “I think we want to keep the government open, don’t you agree?”
