SANTA ROSA, Calif. (AP) - About 250 people are marching in Santa Rosa in celebration of farm labor leader Cesar Chavez’s birthday and to protest President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports (https://bit.ly/2n2lT60) farmworkers and their supporters are marching and waving the red and black flag of the United Farm Workers of America union and chanting “Si se puede! (Yes we can!)”

Similar rallies were planned Sunday in farm communities across California and the nation.

Union coordinator Juan Garcia says they were expecting about 1,000 people at the march in Santa Rosa but that many didn’t want to gather publicly because they are afraid of being deported.

Trump has made immigration a key issue in his administration and said his deportation policies are necessary to keep the United States safe.
