PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A Philadelphia jury has acquitted a police detective who had been accused of kicking a man and breaking his right leg.

The Philadelphia Inquirer (https://bit.ly/2p596gI ) reports that jurors deliberated for about seven hours before acquitting 44-year-old Adam O’Donnell on Tuesday of aggravated and simple assault as well as misusing his official role.

The man testified that O’Donnell kicked him in the right knee, fracturing his femur, in February 2015 outside the Special Victims Unit. O’Donnell took the stand and denied having done that. He criticized his prosecution and said he intends to seek reinstatement to the force. A spokesman for prosecutors said they were disappointed.

O’Donnell had served for nine years before his arrest. He survived a New Year’s Eve shootout in 2010 during a west Philadelphia traffic stop.
