NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - State officials say the west Tennessee city of Paris has received Main Street accreditation, which gives it access to funding to improve its downtown area.

Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Randy Boyd said Wednesday that Paris is joining 32 other Main Street communities in the state.

Officials say Paris’ downtown commercial district is part of a National Register Historic District and contains a traditional town square. It is centered by the Henry County Courthouse and includes 52 historic commercial buildings that house retail and service businesses.

Paris will have access to technical assistance and funding opportunities to make downtown improvements. According to the state, Main Street communities generated more than $71.4 million of public and private investment and created 737 new jobs in 2015.
