On the same day pop singer Katy Perry released her “Rock the Vote” video, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson put out his own YouTube video encouraging folks to register to vote.
Both celebrities’ videos were pegged to the annual celebration of National Voter Registration Day, which falls on the fourth Tuesday of September.
But while Ms. Perry bared all for the Funny or Die, Mr. Johnson simply gave viewers tickets to a gun show in his Tuesday’s video, flexing his biceps and dancing around a bit while a band sang a humorous ditty about registering to vote, warning “lazy” listeners to “get off your a—” and register because if you don’t, the muscle-bound former wrestler “will come find you.”
“And you know I will,” crooned Mr. Johnson as the song concluded. “Alright, guys, [it only takes] 94 seconds. Register to vote right now. You can make a difference.”
Voter registration deadlines vary state by state, with some, like Alaska, coming as early as Oct. 9. By contrast, Vermont’s registration deadline is Nov. 2, while North Dakota doesn’t have voter registration at all.
The general election in 2016 is Tuesday, Nov. 8.
