Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence on Friday said the the strength of Donald Trump’s campaign isn’t about money, as new campaign finance reports show Hillary Clinton with a significant cash-on-hand advantage heading into the closing stretch.
“The strength of this campaign is not dollars and cents,” Mr. Pence said on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” “It’s really the American people who I think are rallying behind Donald Trump’s message to make America great again.”
“I really think it’s the message. I think it’s the agenda,” he said. “And I think it’s the fact that in Donald Trump, the American people have seen and sensed a leader who literally has the strength and the ability to change the direction of this country.”
Campaign finance reports filed on Thursday showed that the Clinton campaign had about $62 million on hand as of Oct. 20, compared to about $16 million for Mr. Trump’s campaign.
Mr. Pence also said he was grateful for the response after his campaign plane skidded off a runway upon landing at LaGuardia Airport Thursday evening.
“With mud splattered up on the windows, we figured we were off the runway, but thank God everybody was fine,” he said.
“I’m just really grateful — really grateful for some quick action, not only by the pilots but also by first responders. … It seemed like they were on the scene at LaGuardia before the aircraft even came to a halt,” he said.
“My son’s a Marine Corps aviator, and Michael always tells us every landing you walk away from [is] a good one,” he said.
