The plane carrying Republican vice-presidential nominee Mike Pence skidded off a New York runway while landing Thursday night.
According to reports at the scene, nobody was hurt in the incident during a chilly, rainy night at LaGuardia airport.
“Pence’s campaign plane has slid off the runway at LGA airport. NO INJURIES. Crazies[t] landing any of us have experienced. Gov. Pence is fine,” Fox News reporter Dan Gallo, who was on the plane, posted on Twitter.
Witnesses said that after a hard landing, the pilot slammed hard on the brakes until a concrete barrier stopped the Boeing 737. The smell of burnt rubber was prominent, according to CNN producer Elizabeth Landers, who was at the scene.
The jet was in the grass, completely off the tarmac but there was no obvious major damage to the plane beyond some blown tires, and mud and grass on the body.
Video footage did show considerable damage to the tarmac and authorities closed LaGuardia after the incident. There were reportedly 37 passengers, including Mr. Pence, and 11 crew members on the plane.
Other video on CNN showed an unhurt Mr. Pence walking around, meeting with first responders. Mr. Pence had been scheduled to attend a fundraiser in New York, but it was canceled.
Republican president nominee Donald Trump called Mr. Pence shortly after the first reports of the accident to make sure his running mate was unhurt.
