DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - A Davenport man has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for providing a fatal dose of heroin to a woman in May 2015.

The Quad-City Times reports (https://bit.ly/2dOXPLn ) that 30-year-old Kiel James Kiwala was sentenced Monday in Davenport’s U.S. District Court. There is no parole in the federal system.

Kiwala pleaded guilty in June to one count of distribution of heroin resulting in death. In exchange for his plea, prosecutors dismissed an additional charge of distribution of heroin.

Police say Kiwala gave 36-year-old Tammy Balzer, of Davenport, the lethal dose of heroin that killed her.
