ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Midshipmen at the U.S. Naval Academy are decorating a tree to inspire giving.
The U.S. Naval Academy says in a statement that it will hold a ceremony Tuesday in honor of its 26th annual “Giving Tree.”
Midshipmen at the school in Annapolis decorate the tree with paper and angel ornaments provided by the Salvation Army. Each ornament has the first name, age, gender, clothing sizes and wish list of items for a child in need in the local community.
Naval Academy midshipmen, faculty and staff can remove one or more tags from the tree and purchase gifts for the children.
The academy says it is expecting to provide gifts for over 500 children this year. The tree is set up in the rotunda of Bancroft Hall.
