DETROIT (AP) - A college tuition program that serves Detroit residents has been expanded to cover four years for students with good grades.

The Detroit Free Press reports (https://on.freep.com/2fYVHli ) that the Detroit Promise program expansion makes Detroit the largest city in the U.S. to give all of its students a chance to earn a college degree tuition-free. Detroit Promise provides two years of free college tuition for Detroit residents.

Detroit students are eligible for four years of free tuition under the expansion if they meet certain criteria. They must have attended four years of high school in Detroit and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 by Feb. 1 of their senior year. That’s also the deadline to register.

Detroit Promise stems from a Michigan Education Excellence Foundation and Detroit Regional Chamber effort.
