SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Democratic congressional candidate Peter Clemens is criticizing Republican opponent U.S. Rep. Rob Bishop for a campaign mailer he says irresponsibly invites an attack from Islamic State militants on northern Utah’s Hill Air Force Base.

The mailer from Bishop’s campaign features pictures of the F-35 fighter jet and says, “ISIS is good at making threats. But Republican Congressman Rob Bishop and the 23,000 Air Force personnel at Hill Air Force Base have a message for them . Bring it on.”

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2eVVTnJ) Clemens, a retired Army Reserve captain, says the mailer is reckless and has the potential for dire consequences.

Bishop’s campaign manager Andy Pierucci responded by saying Democrats are purposely downplaying threats against the country and Bishop is an unwavering supporter of the military and Hill Air Force Base.
