INGOLSTADT, Germany (AP) - Struggling Bundesliga club Ingolstadt has picked a Bundesliga novice as its new coach.
Maik Walpurgis last coached third-division Osnabrueck, where he was fired in August 2015.
Ingolstadt said Saturday that Walpurgis signed a contract until mid-2018.
The club fired Markus Kauczinski last Sunday and appointed Michael Henke as acting coach until finding a long-term solution.
Ingolstadt is next to last in the Bundesliga with two points from 10 rounds.
The club said Walpurgis was a “very ambitious coach with a clear philosophy.”
