Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida said Wednesday that he “can’t wait” to take on Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton in November’s general election, saying Mrs. Clinton and her Democratic allies are working overtime to tear him down because they don’t want him to be the GOP nominee.
“She does not want to run against me, I promise you that,” Mr. Rubio said at an event in South Carolina ahead of Thursday’s GOP debate. “You know how I know? Because literally their entire campaign — I mean, every day, they attack me. Every day. Them, the DNC, their super PACs, whoever it is … just constant attacks from them.
“She does not want to run against me, but guys, I cannot wait to run against her,” he said, to cheers and applause.
Mr. Rubio said Mrs. Clinton is “disqualified” from being commander in chief.
“If you can’t handle classified and sensitive information in an appropriate way, you can’t be president of the United States,” he said, alluding to the controversy over the private email system and server Mrs. Clinton set up and used as secretary of state.
“And if you [lied] to the families of the victims of a terrorist attack like what happened in Benghazi, if you’re saying one thing to them that you know not to be true, and then you are turning around on the same day and telling foreign leaders and family members something else which happens to be the truth like she did,” he said.
“Telling them this was because of a YouTube video, and then telling the leaders of other countries this was a terrorist attack — anyone who lies to people like that is disqualified from being commander in chief,” he continued.
