Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida on Wednesday batted away the notion that he and Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas might join forces to try to take down GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump, who coasted to victory in Nevada Tuesday.
“First of all, both Ted and I are both running vibrant national campaigns, so the voters are going to have to provide the consolidation — it’s not going to be a deal between candidates,” Mr. Rubio said on “Fox and Friends.” “And that just never happens, and it isn’t going to happen now.”
Mr. Rubio said he’s as angry and frustrated as anyone and that while anger and frustration can motivate people, you have to know what you’re going to do.
“And voters deserve to know how you’re going to do it,” he said. “And right now, all Donald says is, he tells you what the result is going to be, but he refuses to outline how we’re going to achieve these things and voters deserve to know that because this is the most important political job on the planet.”
Mr. Rubio says he feels “really good” about Super Tuesday on March 1, when about a dozen states will vote.
“What I’m not going to do [is] get into this Joe Namath-style prediction of we’re going to win here or win there — we never played that expectation game,” he said. “I think we’re going to surprise some people next Tuesday. We feel optimistic about it.”
