LOS ANGELES (AP) - Prosecutors say a 48-year-old Los Angeles man has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for traveling to Cambodia to have sex with underage boys.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Erik Leonardus Peeters of Norwalk was sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court.

Authorities say he traveled to Cambodia in 2008 to seek out boys for sex, specifically targeting disabled and destitute children.

He was returned to the United States after Cambodian police arrested him.

Peeters pleaded guilty to two counts of engaging in illicit sexual contact with a minor in a foreign country.

He is the last of three people sentenced as part of a federal program to identify and prosecute men who traveled to Cambodia for sex with children.

The others received sentences of 70 and 10 years, respectively.
