Former President Bill Clinton cast his electoral vote for wife Hillary Clinton in New York on Monday, saying it was a proud but bittersweet moment after a long-fought campaign.

“I watched her work for two years,” Mr. Clinton told reporters shortly after voting in Albany. “I watched her battle through that bogus email deal, being vindicated at the end when Secretary [Colin] Powell came out.

“She fought through that. She fought through everything, and she prevailed against it all,” he said. “But, you know, then at the end we had the Russians and the FBI deal, and she couldn’t prevail against that. She did everything else and still won by 2.8 million votes.”

Asked if he considered his vote for his wife to be “bittersweet,” the former president responded, “Yeah, but I’ve never cast a vote I was prouder of.”

Mr. Clinton made similar comments earlier this month to a local newspaper during a stop at a small bookstore in Katonah, New York. The former president was asked his thoughts about a reported CIA assessment that Russia interfered in the presidential election with the aim of helping President-elect Donald Trump, Politico reported.

“You would need to have a single-digit IQ not to recognize what was going on,” Mr. Clinton said.

He also blamed FBI Director James B. Comey for costing Mrs. Clinton the election by announcing less than two weeks before Election Day that the FBI was again investigating her private email server.
