Washington Nationals first baseman Ryan Zimmerman was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday because of a wrist contusion. The move is retroactive to Aug. 1.
Washington called up Brian Goodwin from Triple-A Syracuse to take Zimmerman’s spot on the roster. Goodwin can play all three outfield positions. This is his first time in the major leagues.
Zimmerman is on the disabled list for the second time this season. His first trip to the disabled list was because of a left rib cage strain. This time, being struck by a Santiago Casilla pitch forced him to the disabled list.
Zimmerman, who has played 80 games this season, is hitting .222 with 12 home runs.
