Sen. Hillary Clinton on Thursday night touted her “New York values” - a not-so-subtle shot at Republican presidential hopeful Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, who has used the phrase in a derogatory manner to describe liberals and their positions on social issues.

At a Democratic debate in Brooklyn, Mrs. Clinton recalled her time as U.S. senator from New York,.

“We worked hard to keep New York values at the center of who we are and what we do together,” she said. “That is exactly what I want to do as your president. We will celebrate our diversity. We will work together, bringing us back to being united, setting some big, bold progressive goals for America. That’s what I’m offering this campaign.”

Republican Donald Trump also has criticized Mr. Cruz for his “New York values” remark.
