From Russia, with love, Edward Snowden lashed out at his critics and slammed U.S. presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton during an online interview with Al Jazeera. Calling Mrs. Clinton’s excuses for running classified information through a small company’s bathroom, “ridiculous,” Mr. Snowden pulled no punches in his attacks by using his intimate knowledge of how to handle classified, and potentially classified, information.
“If an ordinary worker at the state department or the Central Intelligence Agency […] were sending details about the security of embassies, which is alleged to be in her email, meetings with private government officials, foreign government officials and the statements that were made to them in confidence over unclassified email systems, they would not only lose their jobs and lose their clearance, they would very likely face prosecution for it,” Mr. Snowden stated last week.
He went on to say, “When the unclassified systems of the United States government, which has a full-time information security staff, regularly gets hacked, the idea that someone keeping a private server in the renovated bathroom of a server farm in Colorado is more secure is completely ridiculous.”
Since fleeing American authorities upon the release of thousands of documents, which exposed the National Security Agency’s (NSA) bulk collection of phone records in the United States, Mr. Snowden was granted asylum in Moscow and is regularly hauled out in front of the media by the Kremlin as a propaganda mouthpiece to reinforce the Russian state media narrative. Since the mainstream American media won’t hold the former Secretary of State accountable for her actions, it is ironic that Mr. Snowden, wanted for espionage by the U.S. government, holds more credibility than our own, obviously corrupt, domestic press on Mrs. Clinton’s actions.
