Former President Bill Clinton will join Hillary Rodham Clinton on the campaign trail in Iowa this weekend, making his first visit to the state in support of his wife’s 2016 Democratic run for president.
Mrs. Clinton’s campaign announced Monday that Mr. Clinton would deliver remarks at a campaign rally ahead of the Iowa Democratic Party’s annual Jefferson Jackson Dinner in Des Moines.
The dinner is a major political event for Democrats in Iowa, home to the nation’s first nominating contest.
Five of the Democratic candidates for president are slated to give speeches at the dinner: Mrs. Clinton, Vermont Sen. Bernard Sanders, former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, former Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee and former Virginia Sen. Jim Webb.
Mr. Clinton has rarely appeared beside his wife since he joined her in June at a rally in New York City to officially launch her campaign, though he sometimes boosted her run with interviews and speaking engagements.
