Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida said Wednesday the Democratic debate in Las Vegas was like something out of the early 1980s.
Mr. Rubio, a 2016 GOP presidential candidate, said the biggest threat to former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s campaign is her “outdated ideas.”
The debate “looked like something from the early ’80s,” Mr. Rubio, 44, said on “Fox and Friends.”
“It was basically a liberal versus liberal debate about who was going to give away the most free stuff — free college education, free college education for people illegally in this country, free health care, free everything,” he said. “Their answer to every problem in America is a government program and a tax increase. That’s all they prescribe, time and time again.”
“And this is stuff from the ’80s, the mid-’80s, and we’re back there except as I said before the debate, it became exactly what I predicted it would be — a race to the left,” the senator said.
Mr. Rubio has been working in generational contrasts on the campaign trail, referring to Mrs. Clinton, 67, as a “leader from yesterday” in his announcement speech in April.
